Debbie Taylor

March 20, 2012

We’ve just been introduced and I’m already head over heels. She has a voice similar to the great Linda Jones, but her limited output spans just 2 decades, beginning with a tune that epitomizes Northern Soul (Don’t Nobody Mess With My Baby) to a lone LP (Comin Down On You in 1972, pictured above), and leaving us in 1976 with a double-sided slow groover, before falling off the face of the earth. Seriously, no one (at least on the Internet) knows what happened to her.

Shame. I can’t get this out of my head. It’s the B-side to I Don’t Want to Leave You, which was rereleased earlier this decade but now out of print. Get it here cuz it’s almost impossible to find elsewhere:

MP3: Debbie Taylor- Just Don’t Pay (1976)

Here’s a nice rework of the A-side:

SuperSoulSisters compiled a Debbie Taylor anthology. The site is now defunct so get it quick.
