Fracking Hell

March 30, 2011

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that unlike New York, Pennsylvania is allowing natural gas drillers to do whatever they wish with our forests, groundwater and rivers. Where I live in Philadelphia we get 80% of our drinking water directly from the Delaware River. Now the Delware River Basin Commission is considering allowingn 30,000, yes, thirty THOUSAND gas wells in the headwaters of the Delaware River beginning THIS SUMMER. What’s more, each well will require an average of 4.5 million gallons of water.

OK, so drilling companies want to divert some water from a large river. Not a big deal, right? Well, that’s not all they want to do with it. Once the water is used in the fracking process, they want to send it back to the river. Problem is, now its contaminated with a multitude of carcinogens.

If you have a problem with this little scenario, you can let the DRBC and the EPA know about it.
PLEASE take one minute to post a comment. I wrote something like, “I am strongly against allowing gas drilling companies to discharge highly polluted fracking wastewater into the Delaware River, which is my (and millions of other individual’s) only source of drinking water.

  1. I watched Gasland just recently…scary what happens when the gas an oil companies move into the places where people need water (everywhere). Creepy.

  2. That’s in my NetFlix cue. Haven’t seen it but hoid it’s good.
