Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse, Gone

March 9, 2010

Mark Linkous, the man who was really the lone member of the band Sparklehorse, shot himself in the chest on Saturday. He was 47 years old.

His crackly tenor voice took some getting used to, but his debut album Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot was on constant rotation on my turntable that year.

These are the cuts from that LP that made it onto many a mixtape in my house:

MP3: Sparklehorse- Cow

MP3: Sparklehorse- Someday I Will Treat You Good

MP3: Sparklehorse- Homecoming Queen

From 2006 LP Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain:

MP3: Sparklehorse- Getting it Wrong

Mark Linkous’ death, reported in the New York Times.

Rest in peace brother.
