Jay Electronica

December 18, 2009

Lotsa hype for this rapper with such an odd name. Originally from New Orleans but spent time in Philly and DC, Baltimore and Detroit.

I was on Cecil B, Broad Street, Master, North Philly, South Philly, 23rd, Tasker.
6 Mile, 7 Mile, Hartwell, Gratiot.
Where niggas really would pack a UHaul truck up, Put the high beams on,
drive up on the curb at a barbeque and hop out the back like “what’s up?”

Dude doesn’t even have a proper LP out yet. This is from his latest EP Exhibit C

You like the sample as much as me? It’s Cross My Heart from Billy Stewart, one of my favorite obscure soul artists from the 60s. Get it here.

While you’re at it you might as well check his best cuts, Strange Feeling and I Do Love You. Take my word for it- you won’t regret it. Here.

  2. RE Billy Stewart…. ive been a real fan of the late but ever so great Mr Stewart.. since the late 60s when i first heard my big brother spinning “sumertime” i had never heard anything like it or anyone to equal his unique style since….. a good friend of mine was lucky enough to catch his act at the twisted wheel club in manchester uk in the late 60s and informs me that his show was outta site and blew the minds of the up for it soul crowd that frequented the club ….”cross my heart ” is one of my faves . check out the flip too. however my no1 is look back and smile . which is exactly what i do every time i dig out all them old45s from back in the day ….thank you brother billy
