Another fun bike race weekend in Philly

June 11, 2007

What a good time. Freebies and activities for kids at the Art Museum, then up to Lemon Hill grilling, drinking, dancing, catching up with old friends, and running around barefoot in the grass.

I should post pictures of the actual race, or even some of the modern road bikes being raced but man, these courier bikes are where its at. They sure are gorgeous. I can’t get over how much they’ve changed in the past ten years. More and more people color-coordinates their components nowadays and it looks sweeet.

The Lemon Hill house looks nice, but this Havnoonian and Pinarello are each a piece of art:

All the couriers gather under the same tree every year and Brad spins old school hip hop, disco & funk, and there’s at least 3 kegs. Some of the old dogs show up, but I wish more of them would come around.

There was a good crowd, which the press estimates to be 350,000. I think that’s pushing it a bit, but the Inquirer stated that the crowd on the Wall was as large as it was back in ’85. Post a comment if you were there this year and previous years and agree with those numbers.
